"Largest Progressive Internet Service Provider, FCC Must Handle Net Neutrality"

Representative Nydia Velazquez of New York (Congressional 7th District) told a group of constituents -- led by May First/People Link -- that she was strongly supportive of Net Neutrality and the FCC's handling of it and would oppose any regressive action on the FCC's recent decision by the Congress.

The delegation's visit to the Congresswoman's office was one of a series of such local visits sponsored by the Media Action Grassroots Network, a nationwide network of media and media-interested organizations of which May First is part.

Velazquez, a 25 year veteran of the Congress and member of its
Progressive and Hispanic caucuses, is generally considered among the Congress's most political progressive members. May First's central offices are in Sunset Park, part of Velazquez's district, and so the organization agreed to organized and head up the delegation.

Speaking for the delegation, May First Leadership Committee member Alfredo Lopez told Velazquez that for the Internet to function "as a tool of our movement for change, a daily necessity for everyone and a vital implement for small businesses", it had to remain neutral. Rep. Velazquez is the Ranking Member of the House's Small Business Committee.

Other members of the delegation briefly spoke of their own experiences with the Internet and the importance of Net Neutrality to their work and that of their movements.

The delegation members were: Professor Antonio Nadal (Brooklyn College), Carlos Pareja (videographer), Maritza Arrastía (adult education and popular education organizer and specialist), Alfredo López (May First/People Link), Rob Robinson (National Economic
and Social Rights Initiative - NESRI).

Full Disclosure: This press release was provided by May First/People Link. May First/People Link is a political progressive membership organization specializing in Internet work and the sharing of services with most members in the United States and Mexico. It is the largest organization of its kind in either country.
